Mom’s Upma with My Recipe

I love Upma a lot and i always been trying different varieties of Upma. And this is the best I have ever tried. I can call  it Masala Upma Or Spicy Porridge. I chose Wheat Semolina (Bansi Rava) as it does not get sticky.

Here goes the Ingredients:

For the Masala Powder:

  • Cumin Seeds: 2 tea spoons.
  • Cloves: 5-7 in no. (depends on spice choice)
  • Dry chilies : 8     (“)

For Upma:

  • Onions: 2
  • Nati Tomato: 2
  • Potatoes: 2
  • Capsicum: 1
  • Brinjal : 2
  • Dry chilies: 6-7
  • Oil & Ghee: 4 tablespoons
  • Mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves: 10-15
  • Green Coriander
  • Salt
  • wheat Semolina (Bansi Rava) : 200 gms

All the Masala Ingredients are dry roasted till red-brown and put in Mixture.

Now cook Brinjal, Potato,Capsicum just for two whistles in pressure cooker and try not to drain the water as it can be used to cook the semolina after tempering.

Tempering is done with heated pan with Ghee and oil, Mustard seeds and then Turmeric, chilies, Tomatoes, Onions, Coriander leaves, Few curry leaves.

After Fine roast, now add the cooked vegetables and retain the water and after a light fry, add the Masala Powder.

Add the Vegetable cooked water then add salt and rest curry leaves and allow for a boil.

Now add it to the water and allow it get cooked by covering it with a lid or plate in simmer mode.

After 10-15 min, our Masala Upma is ready.

Enjoy the Upma.

Bon Apetit.
